Synopsis

I(the director) was told by my mother that she wanted to organize a labor union. I was surprised by that. Till then, she was a mother to me and nothing else. However, she was a laborer as well, having worked as a gas meter reader for 10 years. Moving to another workplace, she filed a lawsuit for receiving the severance pay from the former workplace manager, and I started to record her and her companions with a camera. Of course, the suit is not a fair game at all. I hope she wins, but will she?

 

Director's Statement

In 2009, My mother told me that she wanted to organize a labor union. Words such as labor movement, laborer, labor right, had been quite familiar to me. However, imagining my mom as a laborer and fighter for her right was such a bewilderment. This happening made me notice that I had never been interested in and had no idea about what she does for a living. I recognized that a mother can be one of the laborers. To share the recognition with others, and to support my mom and her companions, I made this documentary.
